Glass has always had a decisive influence on our daily lives and quality of life. Its evolution from the luxury item of antiquity to today’s indispensable material for science, medicine, and industry is vividly illustrated in two municipal buildings housing the Glass Museum.
You are cordially invited to take a journey through the 3,000-year history of glass and discover the GEMS of this material.
Symbolized by the crystal-like, faceted HEART, the 21 HEART themes convey the multifaceted nature of glass as a material.
There are 30 glass game stations —such as the flea microscope, the bottle devil, and the love barometer—just waiting to be tried out and played with.
The museum's glassblower shapes the molten glass and invites visitors to try their hand at blowing glass balls. In the Glass Museum shop, you can purchase replicas of historical glassware, modern glass objects, and enchanting glass jewelry.
The highlight is the nationally renowned Christmas exhibition, featuring a large Christmas bazaar, the “Historical Christmas Tree Ornament Collection” (from 1830 to the present), and authentic period Christmas trees, held every year from the first Sunday of Advent through January 6.
